Jo*Joe

I saw this little indie movie called Jo*Joe at Clinton's Tavern on Thursday. It was made by a family friend (Phil Desjardins) for about $10,000, shot on digital video and all the actors worked for free. As expected, it was kinda rough around the edges and was tightly constrained by the miniscule budget. This movie is basically about a man's descent into poverty and had that gritty, somewhat dour, "Canadian" low-budget feel to it.
(Btw., I really don't like this depressing "Canadian" aesthetic)

However, Jo*Joe was a breathlessly astonishing portrayal of what homelessness is like in Toronto. This movie is also powerfully affecting and has really stayed with me. I've been thinking about it a lot, and expect to replay it in my mind for quite some time. See this movie if you're lucky enough to have the opportunity. It may have a limited run on DVD.
